Conversion and completion of the Grease Factory

The extension of the former textile factory of Mastný follows the footprint of the old building, is broken by the pedestrian axis from the city centre and thus forms a gateway to the central space - the square. The dominant role of the factory is enhanced by the addition of the left wing. The left wing with the dormitory levitates above the extension and the original structure of the factory and eliminates its too pronounced asymmetry. The factory is connected to the extension by a horizontal line of steel grates that serve as screening for the roof terraces overlooking the city and the surrounding area. At the rear of the site is a park serving as an exhibition space for the locksmith's studio, which uses the factory premises, and a children's playground. The extension, with galleries and shops, is designed with an industrial feel - apart from the characteristic sawtooth roof, corten sheets form the outer shell. The extension, on the other hand, fully reflects the original colour and material substance of the factory, a slight contrast being provided by the different rhythm of the window openings.
