Study of the South Centre in Jablonec nad Nisou

The basis of the design was the creation of a logical urban structure that supports the expression of the area as a city centre and improves orientation and identification with it. We understand the area near the core of the city as a place that should be sufficiently built up and therefore we used the surrounding structure to define points that define semi-open block development. The main objectives include the connection to the historic town centre, the main pedestrian routes, the bus station and the train station. In addition to the existing streets with traffic, three pedestrian streets were created between the blocks, two of which lead to the landmark of the area - the Jewish Museum adjacent to the memorial piazza on the ground plan of the burnt synagogue. Another important aspect of the design was the restoration of the spaces along the Nisa River and its maximum accessibility. This route is lowered by one height level compared to the surrounding streets, creating a continuous path between the Žižkův vrch forest park and the Jablonecské paseky. The area is dominated by residential buildings with commercial ground floor. Public amenities include a hotel, a library with a gallery and the aforementioned Jewish Museum. In the quietest part with access to the river are a youth home and a house for the elderly. The bus station building with administrative buildings is further on the territory.
